The FCCSM Thinkers Group addresses anxieties caused by armed conflicts around the world.
The Thinkers Group, created in 2010, is comprised of individuals with a mental health diagnosis, their families, and mental health professionals.
The Thinkers' Group, linked to the Catalan Congress of Mental Health Foundation (FCCSM), which is currently working on the psychological impacts of armed conflicts, has written a letter in Catalan, English, French, Arab i Ukrainian It is proposed to create different thought spaces intended to provide emotional support to victims of armed conflicts. This initiative serves to address the mental health effects of both people directly experiencing a war situation and those suffering the devastating effects of conflicts from afar.
The proposal arises from the detection, by group members, of a significant increase in people expressing concern about devastating effects of war the consequences suffered by those directly affected. Much of this concern is caused by constant exposure to news and images of armed conflicts that reach us daily through the media and social networks, generating worry and, in some cases, even a feeling of extreme anguish and distress for the victims.
The Global Peace Index 2024 report from the Institute for Economics and Peace identifies 56 wars in the world and a total of 92 countries involved in some conflict. In the face of these alarming figures, the Thinkers' Group sees the need to share their solidarity with all those affected by the war and to express to them that, despite the distance, they accompany them in their loneliness and despair.
The FCCSM Thinkers Group
The Thinkers Group, formatted for users, family members, mental health professionals, and citizens interested in the subject, has been meeting once a month for 14 years to discuss the suffering experienced by humans and reflect collectively on issues related to mental health. The group, which in 2022 focused mainly on the effects of the pandemic, has been working and debating in recent months about the concern and helplessness generated by the inability to more effectively help victims of armed conflicts from a distance.
With this initiative, the group is committed to emotional and supportive care and aims to become a beacon of light amidst darkness and adversity.
