Kaleidoscope of Psychiatric Reform in Catalonia
On June 1 and 2, 2018, the "Kaleidoscope of Psychiatric Reform in Catalonia" conference was held at the headquarters of the Nou Barris district.
The day organized by the’Historical Archive of Roquetes-Nou Barris, the Memorial of the Mind I love Catalan Congress of Mental Health Foundation It was proposed with the conviction that enough time has passed to approach a rich, and at times traumatic for some, reality that transformed the conception of mental illness, as well as its treatments, generating from within and outside psychiatric hospitals the foundations of new community psychiatry. With this idea, we created something like a kaleidoscope, from the trencadís of different perspectives: people with mental disorders, professionals, families, community, administration... to reconstruct that part of the history of psychiatry that has been so important.
The main objectives of the day were: To recover the history from its protagonists, to recognize the efforts and energy generated, to acknowledge the successes and failures in order to process this stage, to gather its evolution, both in terms of concept and service development, and to show mental health from its roots, which many are unaware of.
