
It is well known the relationship between art, in its forms of painting, sculpture, literature or music, for example, and mental health. Through artistic performance, People experiencing emotional difficulties or mental health problems can find genuine forms of expression that help channel their distress or suffering; this is then referred to as therapeutic effects.
The Congress Foundation for Mental Health, with its integrated vision towards patients and professionals of different sensitivities, maintains the firm purpose of working for the overcoming of stigma surrounding mental disorder and for a sincere approach to all artistic manifestations that arise from people with mental health problems.
The Xarxart project was born with the first edition of the Catalan Congress of Mental Health, held in Barcelona in 1999. From the outset, we considered the link between art in its different expressions (painting, theater, music, etc.) and mental health to be important. Subsequently, and in each of its editions, the Xarxart Award has continued to be awarded.
