On March 18, the conference “Basic Rights in Psychiatric Admissions” was held at the College of Physicians of Barcelona, organized by the Ethics Committee for Care (CEA) of the Catalan Congress Foundation for Mental Health (FCCSM). The objective of the conference was to debate the current conditions of involuntarily admitted mental health patients through the presentation of the document “Basic Rights for Patients in Emergency or Psychiatric Admission Situations”developed by the Ethics Committee of Care (CEA), highlighting once again the legal dimension of the issue and recalling the normative and protective nature of the rights provided by current legislation.

The event had 230 participants and a broad representation from different sectors: representatives of “in-person” associations, family members of mental health users, professionals from the public mental health care network (psychiatrists, psychologists, social educators, nurses, social workers…), and from other involved sectors (forensic professionals, judges…).
