Journey of unaccompanied adolescent and young migrants and mental health<\/span><\/strong>

On April 12, 2019, the conference on unaccompanied migrant adolescents and youth and mental health was held. The conference, which took place at Espai Francesca Bonnemaison (Barcelona), was a success in terms of attendance and participation. A total of approximately 350 participants registered.
\nIn the coming days, we will prepare a synthesis document, conclusions, and future proposals that we will make available to everyone.<\/p>\n

The Work Day is a project shared by several professional organizations: College of Educators and Social Educators of Catalonia (CEESC), College of Social Work of Catalonia (TSCAT), Official College of Psychology of Catalonia, and the Congress Foundation for Mental Health in Catalonia (FCCSM).<\/p>\n

The realities presented by unaccompanied migrant adolescents and youth were addressed. It is not a new phenomenon but a growing one that is overwhelming the child and adolescent protection and care system. According to DGAIA data, 684 newcomers arrived in 2016, mainly from the Maghreb, and 1489 in 2017. The year 2018 closed with 3524 cases, and it appears that the figure could double in 2019. Therefore, we consider that we are not facing an \u201cemergency\u201d situation, but rather a phenomenon with a long trajectory that will continue over time.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the objective of the Conference was to make visible the latent and manifest mental health problems in this group and to develop, as far as possible, proposals for better, comprehensive, and integrated care.<\/p>\n
