In June 2017, CosmoCaixa hosted the 6th Catalan Congress of Mental Health<\/a> <\/strong>under the title \u2018Migration, Exile, and Refuge: Human Rights and Mental Health\u2019<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The objective of the Congress was  build proposals capable of reducing the risks arising from migration <\/strong>to improve coexistence and citizen cohesion, thereby increasing the population's health and well-being.<\/p>\n

Des de fa uns anys els processos migratoris, la recerca de refugi davant les diverses adversitats i desemparaments (guerres, fam, persecucions pol\u00edtiques, etc.) s\u00f3n motius de preocupaci\u00f3 i posen al descobert un alt nombre de mancances. Aquestes situacions comporten una alta c\u00e0rrega de patiment en els que la pateixen i en la societat que viu amb perplexitat i angoixa un moviment migratori de gran intensitat que fa que es replantegin molts dels valors socials. Aix\u00f2 afecta a la salut i a la salut mental comunit\u00e0ria.<\/p>\n

Tot i aix\u00f2, encara s\u00f3n pocs els estudis sobre l’impacte que t\u00e9 aquest fenomen social.<\/p>\n

The interdisciplinary perspective accommodated a large number of individuals and groups with experiences and knowledge related to the dramatic situation we are experiencing in Europe with the refugee crisis<\/strong>. Faced with this reality, Congress tried to be another element of denunciation and mobilization<\/strong> to respond, in this case from The perspective of community mental health.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00c0ngels Vives<\/strong>, president of the Catalan Congress of Mental Health Foundation and the Organizing Committee, remarked that \u00abit is we citizens and professionals who must think together about ways to provide care.\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Per la seva part, el conseller de Salut de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Antoni Com\u00edn<\/strong>, ...he claimed that \u201cwe will not be a mentally and spiritually healthy society until we treat each other en masse and ordinarily as brothers.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mental health impact<\/strong><\/p>\n

Migratory processes involve a high burden of individual suffering <\/strong>at the same time, of\u2019Misunderstanding and inadequate responses <\/strong>in communities that could provide shelter. The search for refuge in situations of\u2019adversity and helplessness <\/strong>for various reasons \u2013 wars, famine, poverty, lack of freedoms... \u2013 reveal numerous fragilities, have a great impact on mental health, and highlight the need to act collectively, coordinated, and globally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mental illness can only be overcome and mental health promoted if the right conditions are created for individuals to live in a state of well-being and to develop and carry out a productive and fulfilling life plan.<\/p>\n

The inaugural conference \u2018Pol\u00edtiques migrat\u00f2ries i el seu impacte en el benestar de les persones. Crisi de valors?\u2019<\/strong> was in charge of Nabil Sayed-Ahmad Beirut\u00ed, <\/strong>psiquiatra d\u2019origen siri\u00e0, qui <\/strong>He framed migration as something inherent to human nature and championed the \u201cvery many positive aspects\u201d it brings: loss of fear of the other, opportunities, knowledge, learning... Sayed-Ahmad adopted Amin Maalouf's perspective when he advocated for talking about origins instead of roots: \u201cpeople don't have roots, they have feet and they walk.\u201d He did lament, however, that today's migrations, forced displacements that risk mental health, are the result of a certain globalization and economic reasons linked to the concentration of wealth.<\/p>\n
